Fireflies Alight on the Abacus of Al-Farabi II

by Paul DeMarinis

🏆 Honorary Mention · Prix Ars Electronica 1999

In 1999, the Prix Ars Electronica jury recognised “Fireflies Alight on the Abacus of Al-Farabi II” by Paul DeMarinis (Digital Musics & Sound Art) with a Honorary Mention. Paul DeMarinis has 5 more works in this atlas.

A 60 foot long music wire with little dancing loops of mono-filament is stretched in an absolutely dark room and illumined by an emerald laser beam. The loops dance on the harmonic nodes of the wire, producing flickering points of light and aeolian harplike sounds.
