Knot Reel
by Kurt Fleischer, Michael Kass, Andrew Witkin
🏆 Honorary Mention · Prix Ars Electronica 1987
In 1987, the Prix Ars Electronica jury recognised “Knot Reel” by Kurt Fleischer, Michael Kass and Andrew Witkin (Computer Animation) with a Honorary Mention.
Technical Description "Knot Reel" was made using the results of our research in computer graphics and computer vision. Beginning with a real image, visual analysis lets us automatically decompose the original texture into a straight grain pattern, a knot, and the deformation of the grain induced by the knot.
