“MakerBot Operators” by an uncredited artist received a Honorary Mention in the Digital Communities category of the Prix Ars Electronica 2010.
Up until last year, 3D printing could only be done by the wealthy or those with access to elite institutions. The “MakerBot” 3D printer is cheap and open source and comes as a kit. Once you’ve put it together, you’re a “MakerBot” operator.
