Talking Drum

by Chris Brown

🏆 Honorary Mention · Prix Ars Electronica 1996

Chris Brown's “Talking Drum” was honoured with a Honorary Mention at the Prix Ars Electronica 1996, category Digital Musics & Sound Art.

"Talking Drum" is an interactive computer network piece based on cyclical rhythms. It expands on the idea of the drum-machine to enable much of what commercial instruments lack: performer interactivity, poly-rhythmic complexity, temporal flexibility, and timbral variety.
